SHEWORKS Home: Bringing Textile Craft into Everyday Living
For years, clothing was the most visible part of SHEWORKS. But the textiles we worked with had always belonged in homes as well.
Weaving, embroidery, Rilli, patchwork and hand-blocked cloth can be worn, handled, laid across a bed or placed on a table. Moving into home textiles gave us another way to work with the same knowledge.
A new use asks new questions
SHEWORKS Home is developing through cushions, throws, runners, bedding and other textile pieces. Our research has also explored wall pieces and soft furnishings.
The familiar questions remain: who understands this technique, what material suits it and how much intervention does it need? A new use adds another layer. A cushion asks us to think about placement on a small surface. A throw gives a weave more room. Bedding brings comfort and repetition into the conversation.
These are practical decisions. A textile should serve the life it will have in someone's home.
Let each category develop properly
We want this part of SHEWORKS to grow through materials and processes we understand. That means giving research and sampling their place before expanding a range.
The craft should remain visible, and the piece should be something people can use repeatedly. A quiet setting can give embroidery, handloom or patchwork a strong presence without turning a room into a display.
SHEWORKS Home carries our design practice into another part of everyday life. The work still begins with the cloth, the people who know it and the question of what it can become.
