Pavind- Kari ( Upcycling)
SheWorks is a social enterprise that focuses on promoting women's economic empowerment, preserving cultural heritage, and promoting sustainable and ethical fashion. One of its most successful projects is the Pavind-Kari project, which showcases the skill and artistry of expert women artisans who create beautiful upcycled textile products. The project began with the idea of upcycling denim jeans and jackets and transforming them into unique and beautiful pieces of art. The SheWorks team collaborated with expert artisans to create a collection of embroidered jeans jackets, bags, and dolls, each piece showcasing the intricate and vibrant embroidery techniques that have been passed down through generations. The project was made possible through a collaboration with the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) and the support of The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) is a government agency of the Italian Republic that is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing Italy's international cooperation activities in the areas of development, humanitarian aid, and promotion of peace and human rights. The agency has a particular focus on supporting projects that aim to promote sustainable economic development, gender equality, and social inclusion. The Italian Embassy in Pakistan has been a strong supporter of the Pavind-Kari project since its inception, recognizing the potential for this collaboration to support women's empowerment and cultural preservation in Pakistan. In fact, the embassy has been instrumental in providing financial and technical assistance to help SheWorks and PNCA realize their vision for the project. The embassy's interest in the Pavind-Kari project reflects Italy's broader commitment to promoting sustainable development and empowering women in the global south. This is particularly important in the context of Pakistan, where women often face significant social and economic barriers to realizing their full potential. Through their support for the Pavind-Kari project, the Italian Embassy and the AICS have demonstrated their commitment to advancing these goals and making a positive difference in the lives of women and communities in Pakistan. This partnership highlights the potential for collaboration between governments, NGOs, and private sector actors to achieve meaningful impact and support sustainable development in the global south. This partnership helped bring the mission of SheWorks to a wider audience and demonstrate the beauty and value of ethical fashion. The Pavind-Kari project not only offers a sustainable alternative to fast fashion but also supports the economic empowerment of women in Pakistan. By providing paid work to skilled artisans, SheWorks helps these women support their families and communities, while also preserving their cultural heritage. The embroidered jackets, bags, and dolls created through the Pavind-Kari project are truly one-of-a-kind pieces that showcase the beauty and diversity of Pakistani culture. Each piece is carefully crafted by hand and tells a unique story. The dolls, for example, are made using traditional Pakistani textile techniques and feature colorful embroidery and intricate beadwork. The bags, made from upcycled jeans jackets, are both stylish and sustainable, offering a unique alternative to mass-produced accessories. Through the Pavind-Kari project, SheWorks has been able to bring its vision of empowering women and preserving cultural heritage to a wider audience. The success of this project has inspired the organization to continue exploring new and innovative ways to promote sustainable and ethical fashion, while also supporting the communities and artisans who make it possible. At SheWorks, they believe in the power of artisanal work to make a difference in the lives of women and communities. The Pavind-Kari project is a shining example of this belief, showcasing the beauty and value of ethical fashion and the importance of investing in women's empowerment and cultural preservation. They invite everyone to join them in celebrating and supporting this incredible project, and help them continue to make a difference in the world
